This year it comes late, but still as beautiful as before. I planned to go other places to have different scenery but the weather stopped me. So, I just go to the place where I always go - and the one I like the most - Children Grand Park.
Guui entrance
on Wednesday
twinkle twinkle little star
close up
soon to blossom
too beautiful to shine
Did you get to see some around you? The cherry flowers bloom out earlier in our housing area, but the park later, and even Walker Hill area does not yet bloom out yet! Weather is strange and the flowers come out late too.
Enjoy the spring!
Summer
Enjoying the sunshine, loving the green -

Children Grand Park - new areas
Every year the Children Grand Park of Seoul (Subway line 7 exit 1 to main entrance, line 5 Achasan station exit 4 to back entrance) will have new renovation and improve their facilities for the benefit of the visitors.
This time the bird park has new changes after the bird flu. There are not many birds as last time but the benefit is we can enter the bird park and touch the little yellow birds - parrot village 앵무마을. It opens from 10am to 5pm, 1st April to 31st Oct annually. You are freely to touch the birds if they fly over to you. You can buy the food in the food machine for 500 won.

parrots' mini houses
they're so beautiful and cute!

the best moment for parents and children!

When I visited the park last Monday, I accidentally met the family from my hometown. They come to Korea every year to visit the parents. I miss the Malay words they speak. :)
Another area I would like to introduce to you is the Korean folk tales' village. The popular stories are shown here with the characters made and shown here.

mini water fountain decorated with traditional pots

famous story - fairy lady with wood cutter

a sample of traditional house - traditional kimchi pots and a cow.

Also, you can touch the real traditional soil-made wall. My friend who is pregnant is my best model.
There is also a new football field, and this park is a very good place for jogging and walking.

Autumn red-yellow-brown-golden moment
Last Monday we went to the Grand Children Park to have a walk as I knew that the leaves started to change colors. These two days the temperature suddenly dropped down so fast - below zero - that stopped me to visit the park . :(
Anyway, I snapped some photos for my 2009 autumn collections. I will join a photographing session on next Saturday with a Korean photographing club in order to learn some basic photographig skill from them.
The beautiful yellow+green+brown tall grand trees welcomed me from the Guui entrance to the park.
Red leaf on the floor is always my target.
I still remember this view - last year I was here and there was a graduation photo session of a kindergarten.
Which one do you like? Portrait or landscape?
Yellow ginkyo trees - the first to shine in the autumn
It's hard to take photo for this tree as they are to bright- but it turns out good and it looks like a postcard for me!
Erm... this red is not shining, yet it tells me that... they are coming soon!

Walking on the jogging route - slightly change color of the trees.
We found here beautiful and we took a group photo together.

Have you seen the beautiful autumn scenery this year? Go out and have a look. Despite the swine flu, wear a mask and make sure you drink lots of water and intake vitamin c, and the most, do exercise or have sports, to make your body healthy. The long and cold winter is coming - I think the best precaution is have exercise regularly. Take care! Hope you enjoy the photos!

Cosmos flowers
Cosmos flowers are the symbol of autumn in Korea. You sure should not miss this flowers!
We went to Guri Han River Park on last Saturday, thanks God the flowers still bloom out so beatifully, and there were a lot of photographers around. I hope I can have the same camera like theirs. I know the limitation of my camera but still I am satisfied that I can enjoy the beautiful scenery there, with my beloved hubby and friends.
This is the photo I like the most. See the pink and white flowers?
Or may be this one?
This year we can't go inside the flowers to take photos.
Anyway, the lines just can't stop the flowers coming out to let us take closer photos for them. They're shining as usual! Every year they are new to me!
Don't forget to take photos with your friends!
Yet, not only the cosmos flowers bloom out after hot summer. Other flowers also welcome this autumn together!
Animals also join the singing and dancing of the autumn cooling weather!

Sunflowers too!

dragonfly
lizard too!
Even the kids come out from the 4-wall kindergarten studying rooms to the park to get sun shine and enjoy the autumn - sadly with mask this year. Be healthy, kids! (Yet after this trip, I have running nose!)
Caring Koreans
I didn't go to the Children Grand Park recently. It has been renovated for a better place to the visitors and people who do exercise there. Since it is autumn now, I went to the park again on Tuesday! I always wanted to go there but the time constraint - rushed to school or part time teaching. I hope I will go there more often, especially I will go there to take autumn leaves photos again!
This time I found out something that shows Koreans are caring people.
First, see what they sell here: walking puppies and ducklings. Lots of kids in the metropolitan city cannot have pets at home. Even they have to come to the park to see animals like puppies, cats and others. Thus, they make this so that the kids can have "pets" to accompany them in the park!
It is not a bad idea, right? I think the kids will like it because they can walk with wheels (though not with their foot).
Another thing is they replaced the parking lots just nearby the Guui entrance with pink and ladies' signs: parking for ladies. Not only they provide the parkings for the handicapped drivers, but also for the ladies drivers. It seems like a good sign for the ladies, and also it signifies that the Korean ladies' drivers still have "not-sense" enough to drive safely. :O
It is good for ladies because most of the time they bring the kids out but not the fathers. They can get in and out of the car more conveniently as the parkings are nearer to the entrance of the park.

Mount Hallasan National Park, Jeju Island
Mount Hallasan National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage.
Height: 1,950 meter. This mountain stands tall in the middle of Jeju Island. It is also called Mt. Yeongjusan, meaning a mountain high enough to pull the galaxy. It is designated as a National Park in 1970, surrounded 368 parasitic mountains (called Ohruem "peaks").
Over 1,800 kinds of plants and 4,000 species of animals (3,300 species of insects) are known to exist here. The climbing courses are well-developed and you can carefully observe the surroundings.
The climbing course is short and less than 10km in length, up and down in one day. But the weather conditions often change and there is a lot of wind, so you must be well prepared before going up the mountain.

From the photo above, you can see the hiking courses available:
- Seongpanak trail: 9.6km to Baengnokdam (4 hours 30 mins for 1-way)
- Gwaneumsa trail: 8.7km to Baengnokdam (5 hours for 1-way)
- Eorimok trail: 4.7km to Wiseoreum (2 hours for 1-way)
- Yeongsil trail: 3.7km to Wiseoreum (1 hour 30 min for 1-way)
The ascending and descending time is different for different seasons. Please refer to here for more information (other facilities and local transportation).
In summer, for the course we took - Eorimok trail: ascent 5am - 2pm, descent 4pm
Admission: Free
Geologic Evolution of Jeju Island
Jeju Island was produced by volcanic activity from about 1.8 million years ago with eruptions continuing until historic times. The early volcanism of Jeju Island began underwater on the bed of the Yellow Sea continental shelf. This hydrovolcanism continued for more than a million years forming the Seoguipo Formation in the subsurface, which is composed of numerous hydropmagmatic volcanoes and marine sedimentary strata. Lava effusion became dominant after about 600,000 years ago, forming the lava plateau and shield, and numerious volcanic cones (oreums). Construction of the 1,950m - high peak of Mt. Halla was completed by the Holocene Epoch less than 10,000 years ago. About five to seven thousand years ago the Seongsan Ilchulbong tuff cone and the Songaksan tuff ring were produces by hydrovolcanic eruptions along the seashore, also resulting in deposition of the Sinyangri and Hamori formations.
In Aug 2008, we had a chance to climb this mountain through Eorimok trail. So, I will show you some photos and amazing experiences.

What you first need to do is climb up the staircases! Every mountains start with staircases - it's tiring! So better be prepared and have breakfast before you climb up the mountain. Do not give up although people pass over you when you climb up the mountain. Let their passion be your motivation: They can do it, I can do it too!

After finished the staircases, the clear blue sky welcomes you! Do not forget about the hot sun too! So please put on sun cream or sunblock before climbing. Anyway, when you see this view, you will feel better as you can see the mountains around and you know how far you're going to reach.

long way to go!

Enjoy the scenery:

When we reached the Wiseoreum, we were so excited! It's tough yet a meaningful trip!
First, enjoy the view of the tall Mt Halla - it's just in front of you but... not yet there!

There are a lot of black drongos.
After we took enough rest, it's time for us to go down again. Do not forget to take some photos before you walk down. It will be faster to walk down than climb up.

Hope you will enjoy the Mt Hallasan climbing course!
